3. TROPHY WINNERS 2008/9
Female Club Person of the Year
Kirstin Cumming
For yet another season of remarkable devotion to the Club as amongst other things equipment controller, equipment seller, meeter and greeter to visiting teams, member of the youth and tournament committees.
Male Club Person of the Year
Nigel Wooltorton
This award is given for another season of devoted service to youth coaching and in particular with the Ladies' Development team and with the U13 Girls' Minis team which won eight tournaments before finishing third in the national finals.
The Magpie Cup (To mark a season of outstanding service)
Jose Tibbenham
This award is given for another season of devoted service to the Club as a member of the Fund Raising & Social, Executive and Finance Committees, a team captain and most importantly as the Club's Treasurer.
Leeder Cup (Men's 1st Team Player of the Year)
Richard Gill
The most tightly contested senior player award for many years shows what a good all round performance the Men's first team have had this season. The winner really stepped up to the mark. In only his second season back at the club and taking on more of a player coach role he has controlled many games from midfield. With the added pressures of a new member to the family this award is thoroughly deserved for all of the hard work he has put into the season.
Male Young Player of the Year
Chris Barber
In contrast to the senior player award the junior player of the year was near enough a one-horse race. Since he first came into the squad three years ago this player has developed his all round game at an astonishing rate. Finishing the season as the second highest goal scorer he will be sadly missed next year and we wish him all the best at University.
Longe Trophy (For outstanding Youth coaching services)
David Brook
The award goes to someone who has done unstinting work for youth hockey over a number of years particularly in the vital area of Girls' and Boys' Mini Hockey, but this season the icing on the cake was to win the U16 Girls Indoor National title.
Rushworth Ward Trophy (For outstanding long service)
Mike Denham
This award was given to the outgoing chairman (much to his surprise) in recognition of his services when he was about to read out the citation in respect of another member!
Betty Whipps Cup (Ladies' 1st Team Player of the Year)
Anna Toulson
This player returned to the first team this season and increasingly impacted on the progress of the team with some outstanding attacking performances, highlighted by her stick work that troubled every defence. In addition she played outstandingly well in the indoor team which won Division 2 of the national league.
Female Young Player of the Year
Cherry Seaborn
This player made her National League debut at 15 years old and 16 months later her speed, skill and work rate were recognised outside the Club when she was selected for the England U18 squad. Needless to say we wish her well in her hockey career with the club and beyond.
